Team USA alumna Rose Zhang excels in Symetra Tour debut

At 17 years old, Rose Zhang has already experienced more than most golfers do in a lifetime. The Californian won the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2020 and rose to the No. 1 amateur in the world in September after finishing T11 in an LPGA Tour major, the ANA Inspiration.
This past week, Zhang checked another box in her blossoming career while making her debut on the Symetra Tour. Competing as an amateur in the Tour’s 2021 opener – the Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic – Zhang carded a final-round 66 to reach a playoff with Ruixin Liu before falling on the second extra hole to finish runner-up.
"I think that this counts as a great debut for the Symetra Tour,” said Zhang after the tournament. “I am super proud of myself for how I carried myself throughout the four days. Just being here with the pros and learning so much has really given me motivation to keep playing well.”
Zhang has been ascending the highest ranks of amateur golf for several years. In 2019, she represented Team USA at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Zhang, along with teammates Emilia Migliaccio, Stewart Hagestad and Brandon Wu, took home the gold medal in the mixed team competition.
“I think my biggest take away was being able to stay composed throughout the four days and watching everyone play,” reflected Zhang after her latest headlines. “Everyone has an amazing game and it shows me that I can continue working hard and keep in my stride.”
Zhang is preparing to compete in the second Augusta National Women’s Amateur after finishing T17 in the inaugural event in 2019.
