Brandon Wu locks up PGA TOUR card for 2021-22

Two years after competing with Team USA at the 2019 Pan American Games, Brandon Wu has secured his place amongst golf’s elite. After a top-15 finish on the Korn Ferry Tour last week, Wu has surpassed the Tour’s fail-safe 1,700-point threshold that guarantees a player to finish inside the top-25 in the regular season points standings.

In layman’s terms: Wu is headed to the PGA TOUR this fall.

“Even though I knew I was in good shape, when I actually was closing in on the threshold, I was pretty nervous on the last hole,” laughed Wu. “I had to hit about a six footer and I figured that would get me to 1,700. But then afterward it felt really nice, really relieving. I didn’t think it would feel that way so it was nice to finally get that.”

Wu will officially head to the PGA TOUR for the 2021-22 season where he will compete as a rookie. The 24-year-old Stanford alum earned his first top-10 on the PGA TOUR earlier this season with a T7 mark at the Puerto Rico Open.

In the second half of 2020, Wu went on an incredible run that included a win, two runner-up finishes and two additional top-10s in his first nine starts.

“I had a good start to the super-season last year so that alleviated some pressure coming into this year,” reflected Wu. “But I feel like I haven’t played as well as I would have liked this year. For me I just kind of took it as a year to grow and a year to keep growing in professional golf. I only played in like nine events last year and I’m going to be playing a lot more than that.”

In 2019, Wu made waves as he received his Stanford diploma after walking off the 18th green at Pebble Beach after the 2019 U.S. Open. Later that summer he was a member of Team USA that won a gold medal in the mixed team competition at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. He competed alongside Stewart Hagestad, Emilia Migliaccio and Rose Zhang during that time.

Even after competing against elite competition all of his life, Wu knows next year will mean one more step up in competition.

“Just competing with the best in the world week in and week out, I’m really looking forward to that.”
